The Department of Science and Technology – Science Education Institute (DOST-SEI) recognized the outstanding achievements of young Filipino Olympians during the Pinoy Young STEMbassadors: Recognition Program held on October 27, 2025, at the Sequoia Hotel in Quezon City. Among those honored were Saint Jude Catholic School’s Wins Keinrich Chen, Justine Aaron Co, and Ethan James Cheng. Shaun Mannix Yap was also an awardee but was unable to attend. Wins, this year’s only gold medalist, delivered a speech on behalf of all the delegates.
The recognition program honored Filipino representatives to the nine major international Olympiads recognized by the DOST, namely:
International Mathematical Olympiad (IMO)
International Physics Olympiad (IPhO)
International Chemistry Olympiad (IChO)
International Biology Olympiad (IBO)
International Olympiad in Informatics (IOI)
International Olympiad on Astronomy and Astrophysics (IOAA)
International Earth Science Olympiad (IESO)
International Geography Olympiad (IGeO)
International Nuclear Science Olympiad (INSO)
Participation in these Olympiads is a prestigious distinction, as both the national selection process and the international rounds are known for their rigor. Many of these competitions are also recognized by top universities around the world. Saint Jude Catholic School takes pride in being the only private school in the Philippines to have represented the country in all nine of these major Olympiads.
This year, Wins brought home SJCS’ first-ever gold medal in INSO, while Shaun earned a silver medal. Justine secured a bronze medal in the IOAA, and Ethan also represented the Philippines as one of the IOAA delegates.
Mr. Russel Odi, the school’s Trainers’ Guild Coordinator, was also present at the event and presented reports on the national teams’ performance in the IOAA and IGeO, where he served as team leader for both Olympiads.
Congratulations once again to our outstanding Judenites for bringing pride and honor to the school and the nation!
